CHALLENGES

  • Complex Navigation: Users find it challenging to navigate, drill down to particular categories, or navigate back to a previous screen.

  • Information Overload: The amount of information that is displayed to users at first glance is overwhelming, Artsy's vast collection of artworks, artists, galleries, and exhibitions can make it difficult for users to find what they're looking for

  • Unclear Labels and Icons: Unclear labels and icons are leading to confusion. Users are not able to understand the meaning or purpose of certain buttons, which hinders their ability to explore the app effectively.

  • Poor User Orientation: Users get disoriented within the app due to a lack of visual cues or clear paths to follow.

  • Inefficient Search: The app's search tool is not well optimized; users face trouble locating particular artists, pieces of art, or galleries.

  • Limited Contextual Guidance: Users find it difficult to grasp the function and purpose of various app elements due to a lack of contextual help or on-screen tooltips.

Understanding the user

I studied two Artsy user types: a novice to art and an experienced art collector. Creating personas, empathy maps, and user journeys to understand their unique needs and challenges.

The Artsy app is lacking some crucial features that are already available on the web

Artsy UI Kit

Artsy is centred around art, featuring images with various styles and colors.

To maintain focus on users' primary tasks, I predominantly used shades of black and white. To enhance the colour palette, I introduced a touch of magenta.

The app adheres to the Lato typography and utilizes basic line icons, transitioning to filled icons upon selection. The design incorporates shadows to add depth to the components. I also carried out the test for colour contrast and  colour blindness.

User Interface

I created the design considering all the app audit comments and user challenges. I made the design intuitive with quick links on the home page. User is now able to browse the artists, search for them and see their artworks through quick and easy filters to refine the search
